The Georgia Department of Transportation is beginning construction of the I-285/Peachtree Industrial Boulevard (PIB) Interchange Improvement Project (PI #0017126), one of the Major Mobility Investment Program (MMIP) projects. The design-build project will combine the I-285 westbound exit ramps to PIB north and south while adjusting the horizontal curve of the north exit ramp to reduce the bottleneck from I-285.

Initial activities include mobilizing construction teams, temporary barrier installation and utility relocations. Motorists should expect minor traffic modifications along I-285 and the PIB northbound ramp.

The project is one of the MMIP’s I-285 Advanced Improvement Projects which provide local road improvements to general-purpose lanes earlier and will mitigate traffic challenges during the construction of the future major express lane projects.

“I-285/Peachtree Industrial Boulevard Interchange Improvement Project is providing early operational improvements and supporting better traffic flow once completed,” said Georgia DOT Project Manager Rick O’Hara. “Construction commencing on this project allows the Department to continue to advance the very important MMIP projects that enhance safety, provide transportation improvements and efficiencies and provide more regional connectivity.”

Delivering the project through design-build accelerates the project schedule by overlapping the design and construction phases and benefits the public by reducing construction times, mitigating traffic impacts and maximizing the use of resources and project budget.
