With rising gas prices, more residents may consider public transit

As a suburban area, many Gwinnett County residents don’t consider the benefits of public transportation. But rising gas prices have many looking for ways to alleviate some of the pain at the pump.

Are you one of them?

Have you attended meetings, tried the Travel Training program, chatted with officials at one of its events, or just seen buses pass you by?

Now is your chance to see what Gwinnett County Transit is all about. Join Gwinnett County Transit staff as they visit Gwinnett County Public library locations this month For the Promising Patrons program.

The series kicks off at Peachtree Corners and is followed by Lawrenceville, Lilburn, and Norcross branches. Organizers will discuss transportation alternatives such as transit, carpooling, and more, promising patrons new ways to get to work, school, or around the county. Translators will be available for people with limited English proficiency.

The program takes place from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. at the following locations, on the following dates:

  • Friday, March 18: Peachtree Corners Branch – 5570 Spaulding Drive, Peachtree Corners
  • Monday, March 21: Lawrenceville Branch – 1001 Lawrenceville Highway, Lawrenceville
  • Friday, March 25: Lilburn Branch – 4817 Church Street, Lilburn ·     Thursday, March 31: Norcross Branch – 5735 Buford Highway, Norcross

Other Gwinnett County Transit news

While the mandate signed by Gwinnett County Chairwoman Nicole L. Hendrickson states that masks are no longer required in County facilities, GCT passengers are required to wear a face mask on all buses through March 18. This is in accordance with updated TSA and FTA guidance for travelers using public transit.

All current, previous, and potential GCT riders are being sought for their opinion of GCT transit service. Gwinnett County Transit wants to better understand its customers’ experiences and opinions of public transit. This will help improve and plan for future transit needs.
