Councilmember Eric Christ, who represents District 2 of the City of Peachtree Corners, received the Certificate of Excellence from the Harold F. Holtz Municipal Training Institute. The certificate was presented during the Georgia Municipal Association’s (GMA) Cities United Summit in Atlanta on January 22.

Councilmember Christ was one of just 22 city officials statewide to receive this honor at the summit.

To receive a Certificate of Excellence, a city official must complete a minimum of 120 credit hours. That time includes at least 54 hours from a list of required courses along with graduating from the Robert E. Knox, Jr. Municipal Leadership Institute program.

Classes completed by Councilmember Christ included Making Citizen Engagement Work in Our Communities, Managing Growth, Municipal Law, Municipal Finance, Municipal Water and Wastewater Systems and Public Policy Development.

“I’m honored by this recognition from the GMA and the Carl Vinson Institute of Government,” said Councilmember Christ. “I look forward to putting the knowledge gained from these training classes to work for the residents of Peachtree Corners.”

Based in Atlanta, GMA is a voluntary, non-profit organization that provides legislative advocacy, educational, employee benefit and consulting services to all of Georgia’s 537 cities.

“This is an outstanding achievement,” said GMA Executive Director Larry Hanson. “We commend Councilmember Christ for this accomplishment and for the dedication he has shown in using this valuable resource to become a more effective city official.”

The Harold F. Holtz Municipal Training Institute, a cooperative effort of GMA and the University of Georgia’s Carl Vinson Institute of Government, provides a nationally recognized series of training opportunities for city officials.

Rob Gordon, UGA’s Carl Vinson Institute of Government Director, noted that his organization is proud of its partnership with GMA to provide high-quality, relevant training to Georgia’s more than 3,500 municipal officials. “The institute remains committed to being the trusted resource that city officials across Georgia turn to for leadership and professional development training,” he said.
