Peachtree Corners City Council Recognizes Perry P. Nesbit with Honorary Street Naming

During the Council Meeting on Dec. 13, the Peachtree Corners City Council passed a resolution recognizing Perry P. Nesbit. With the resolution, the segment of Peachtree Corners Circle between Medlock Bridge Road and Peachtree Parkway will now be known honorarily as Perry P. Nesbit Parkway.

The Resolution reads as follows:

A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE PLACEMENT OF AN HONORARY STREET SIGN IN RECOGNITION OF PERRY P. NESBIT

WHEREAS, Perry P. Nesbit was born into slavery on February 2, 1857; and

WHEREAS, after emancipation, Mr. Nesbit worked hard to improve his education, acquire land, and raise a family; and

WHEREAS, over his lifetime, Mr. Nesbit acquired 150 acres of land along with a reputation for loyalty to faith, family, and his community; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Nesbit overcame the circumstances into which he was born to, ultimately, prosper and become a mentor to others; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Nesbit was a worthy example of the characteristics that are the hallmarks of our community: hard work, dedication, service; and

WHEREAS, it has been determined that Mr. Nesbit has met the criteria established for honorary name recognition;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the Mayor and Council for the City of Peachtree Corners that an honorary street sign shall be installed on Peachtree Corner Circle between Peachtree Parkway and Medlock Bridge Road to memorialize the name of Perry P. Nesbit. It is further Resolved that a synopsis of Mr. Nesbit’s history shall be made available on the city’s website to educate and inform the community about Mr. Nesbit’s contributions to the development and betterment of Peachtree Corners.

SO RESOLVED AND EFFECTIVE, this the 13 day of December 2022.

The Peachtree Corners City Council is proud to recognize Perry P. Nesbit and his family and bestow this honor upon his name.
