The Association of Energy Engineers is presenting a 5k this weekend in Peachtree Corners. All proceeds will benefit the Foundation of AEE Scholarship Program.

The Foundation of the Association of Energy Engineers is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization created in 1983 to encourage qualified scholars in energy management, energy engineering, and sustainability to further education in those fields.  The Foundation proudly supports energy and sustainability students and engineers who are eager to make a positive and meaningful difference in the world by investing in their educational future.

Since 1983, the Foundation’s scholarship program has distributed over $1.1 million dollars to 1,738 scholarship recipients.

“I’m an avid runner that lives in Norcross and did a l lot of virtual and in-person races in 2020 and 2021 and thought why not organize a race to raise money for the Foundation of AEE,” said Helen Johnson, Certification Development Director at Association of Energy Engineers. “I thought a 5K was a good fit because it could have a virtual option and with AEE’s global membership, anyone could participate.”

Johnson said the organization is hoping for 150 participants, which is typical for a first-time race event. But there are 225 participants already registered – 140 in-person and 85 virtual.

The virtual runners are really across the globe in places like  Alabama, Arkansas, California, Colorado, DC, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Iowa, Indiana, Kentucky, Massachusetts, Michigan, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Oregon and Texas in the country and South Africa, Mexico, Spain, the United Kingdom and Morocco outside the U.S.
