GAC Broadcast Students Interview Atlanta Braves’ Historian at Truist Park

Greater Atlanta Christian School students, Daisy Strine (class of ’22) and Andrew Hathaway (class of ’23), recently had the opportunity to interview Atlanta Braves historian Carolyn Serra at Truist Park. Strine and Hathaway created the news package as a piece for Live @ 1575, a weekly student-produced broadcast show. The feature, which aired during GAC’s student broadcast, highlighted Hank Aaron’s legacy both on the field and off. 

Live @ 1575 is the chief output of the high school’s multimedia journalism class, one of the many electives available to students. In the course, students develop skills in interviewing, writing, editing and deadline management, essential skills for students interested in a multimedia production career.

Strine said she and Hathaway spent two weeks intentionally planning questions and shots for the news package. “Today we were able to execute and finally put into fruition what we have been planning,” she said.

Mat Hathaway, chief engineer at Bally Sports, said the students did an amazing job coordinating the interview. “They should both be extremely proud of themselves. Their professionalism even led their contact to believe that their project was for a college class rather than high school,” he said.

GAC’s high school principal, Shane Woodward, said the interview was an “outstanding opportunity” for the students.

For Strine, the opportunity was what she called “unforgettable.”

“With my dreams of being a sportscaster, getting to go on the Braves field and work with Andrew to create this video was truly an experience I will never forget and I believe will equip me for a great future in this field of work,” said Strine.
