Santa made dreams for 10 dogs and three cats who are now safe at LifeLine Animal Project’s Community Animal Center shelter. Albany Humane Society (Albany, GA) reached out to LifeLine for help this past week, because the shelter is overcrowded and has no resources to provide heartworm treatment to 10 of their “long-timer” dogs who are heartworm positive.  The dogs had been housed at the Albany shelter since May, and unless someone stepped up to help, they were scheduled to be euthanized.

LifeLine staff drove to Albany yesterday, picking up the 10 dogs, plus three cats, and bringing them to the safety of their private Community Animal Center shelter.  The dogs will all receive heartworm treatment at LifeLine’s Community Animal Center Veterinary clinic, an affordable-care clinic that is open to the public.

LifeLine, which manages the DeKalb and Fulton County Animal Services shelters, has saved over 1,000 at-risk animals from crowded rural county shelters since March.  They are the first organization ever to achieve no-kill rates at the DeKalb and Fulton County Animal Services shelters due to their innovative approach which addresses the root causes of animal homeless.

If you are interested in temporarily fostering one of the dogs and giving them a quiet place to rest while they undergo heartworm treatment, please email foster@lifelineanimal.org.  To make a donation to help care for these animals, please visit LifeLineAnimal.org/donate
